I'm looking to start collecting motors and have first turned to Ebay. I'm bidding on a single AMETEK 115923 but it may move out of what I am able to pay for it. A "Buy It Now or Best Offer" for 6 AMETEK 115923-AB has also caught my eye. Anyone know what the AB stands for?

Usually the letters after a prt # represent how many time it has been update(something changed inside motor)SWAirflowServices wrote:I'm looking to start collecting motors and have first turned to Ebay. "A" first design, AB 2nt design, AC would be 3d exc.
when the design it self changed, such as pull more amps or bolt patters changes, this is when the part ### changes
In other works if its a AB AC or AZ it will serve the same purpose as original.
I don't know it it apply to vac motor but i bet it does.

Re: Ebay Vacuum Motors
We have discussed this in some length in the old forum but I'm going to bring this up here again . . . motor rated cfm does not add up ie 100cfm motors x 8 do not give you 800cfm as you add motors you get a decreasing ratio of additional cfm.
If you are looking for motors for a PTS build or one like it using a 16" differential pressure, look at the motor's cfm chart at 44" (this is your total depression 28+16=44") and add those numbers up and it will give you a pretty good idea of how many motors you need for a give cfm. Same could be done using a lower differential pressure if going with water gauges.
One more thing do not go "cheap" on motors* get the best motors you can afford as they are the heart of your flowbench build. I've talked to to many people who went with what they thought would be ok only to later realize they needed to change the motors out for something more powerful.
*115923's are not considered cheap motors.

Re: Ebay Vacuum Motors
Thanks for the reply Bruce,
I tried to research and do as much reading (an hopefully understanding) of the old forum as I could. I get that I am looking for flow numbers at about 44" of water. My question was on what the "AB" designation may mean.

BTW, the plans are awesome Bruce! Can't wait to start my build.

Re: Ebay Vacuum Motors
What's a good rule of thumb for derating the CFM capability of stacked vacuum motors?

Re: Ebay Vacuum Motors
I was hoping to read a answer to that question. I will go ahead and give my definition of "stacked" The only way I have seen multiple motors is on the back wall of the box.
I am new hear and this is my first post. I'm not even close to building anything but I thought I should have a look at what it takes.
