KEEP SCREWS TIGHT!!!

Post by blaktopr »

Here are some pics from probing a friend's motor. He had a noise inside the motor. Look at what was found imbedded into the head. The screw was a sheet metal type holding the airpan to the firewall. Like a #8 X 1/2". Unfortunately there was more, a crack in the cylinder wall. We saw it weeping liquid. I made a vid of that too for reference.

Wow That sucks!!!

My friend had a 67 Fire Bird, that had a screw in top of the piston, like that(assumed from the carb) that make a lot of noise.
Fortunate for him the screw did only minor damage to piston. removed and ran for years, before he sold it.

To bad it broke the block :(

i saw something like that befor. 454 Chevy with a knock, the noise was up high. not low like a rod knock. i took the head off and found the end of a TORX bit pounded into the number 5 piston. this was the days of the Rochester carb. there are 2 torx screws inside the airhorn just above the venturi...........some one must have done some carb work and the bit stayed in the screw...well for a little while anyway.....

John, all I remember is it was an expensive piece with all the bells and whistles on loan from the military. That was zoomed all in. The screw head was 1/4 inch ish??? in that screen view.

No. The car's owner was retired Navy working on base as a civilian.
