Grand Am Race MMSP 9-11-2010

Post by jfholm »

I went out for a while today. Loved it as always. Today was Grand Am race and tomorrow is a mix, Mustang Challenge, sporty cars and a Nascar Race. Here are some pictures from the Grand Am race and walking through the Nascar Tech in pits. Pretty wild in the Nascar Pits. I am going out to the Nascar Race tomorrow.

All of these Mazda Rotary engined cars left a big puff of fire when they let off the throttle

Here are Sunday's pictures. I will tell you guys, TV just does not do just for NASCAR! This was the NASCAR K&N Pro series. Very cool. First NASCAR event i have seen live and I like them on the road course with all the pushing and shoving. I like it a little better on a road course than even the sporty cars. I really like the sports cars but they are so fragile the drivers avoid contact but in NASCAR they instigate contact. And talk about load when they all come down the straight away. Most of these drivers were late teens and in their 20's but there was one old guy there who was 82 years old still driving and did a pretty darn good job of it.
Three classes were running the 3.05 mile course today. The Nascar cars were lapping 1:55, the Mustangs were 2:09 and the Miatas were 2:24. I think I heard them say that the Nascar vehicles were averaging 95 mph for the course.

I had this one blown up to a 16"X20" at Costco and it was only $5.99 to do it. It really looks cool that big.
