PTS Flowbench Forum "Old Forum"

Post by 1960FL »

As many of you know the original Forum was under the PTS web site called "Flowbench Forum" often referred to as the "Old Forum"and as Bruce progressed and the forum grew he coined the name Flowbench Technology and thus the NEW forum was created. We moved to a new forum software and began our plan to migrate the old forum and all that good information to the the new site. As luck would have it the old forum crashed and we lost a lot of information and time trying to get the old forum back on its feet.

Well this has bothered me for a long time, all that great information gone. I took some of the older backups and began to dissect the data to see if i could extract it in some form that would be at least readable. I spent tens of house trying, i could see it but nothing that would be useful on the forum. Last month i came across some scripts and information that with some major modifications allowed me to get the data out in a usable format :D .

Well i have spent the last week diligently trying to piece something together, and with my dumb luck i was able to import all the data as of 12/16/2009 into a very old version of the current PHPBB Bulletin Board. Now the fun starts! I will work with Bruce to clean everything up try to link all the rapprochements and pictures, etc. We will then need to figure out how to upgrade it to the latest version and make it available to all.

To say the least i am very excited about this breakthrough and hope to have all this completed and up for you to enjoy by late spring or early summer at the latest, i just need to learn a little more about this bulletin board so i get everything i can back in and running.
;)

Rick sent me a temp address to the forum he is working on and all I can say is WOW

I know what work has gone into this and it was a MAJOR undertaking as there was zero and I mean zero support from the old forum software vendor. The major hurdle of getting it into PHPBB was a big accomplishment.

I think our plans are to have the old forum setup to be reference only and all discussion will continue here. The ability to link and reference old posts makes me speechless!!!

A public "THANKS" to Rick for his work on this project!!!!

WAY TO GO RICK!!!! I just spent three days recovering a hard drive for my 83 year old Mother's computer. She has been scanning her old photos for the last 5 years and nothing backed up. I know what you must be going through, so thank you for your tireless effort.

Thanks Rick for the great work that you have done. That was something that I had talked with Bruce when in his house. There is so much great theck information on the old forum that it would be very sad for not having it any more. keep up the good work.
