An interesting idea to be sure.
A modern Vee engine with quad overhead cams might be a good candidate, as its would be much easier to experiment with valve timing on the compressor side.

Havent't been here in a while, been retired about 2 years. Doing other stuff.
That being said, Ford's Flow benched used to use Orifice Chambers (with the chamber walls 3/8" thick) for that very IMPLOSION potential. You removed a special access plate (also made of the same thickness material with retention fasteners) and opened up the flow orifices you wanted for the flow range.
Deal is we only went to 68" of water test pressure and you are talking 7.25" of Mercury for your test pressures.
