$169 per valve for a motorcycle application? $676 a set? No wonder I haven't used these before.

No, not bad at all. Likes a squirt of lube when you are machining the valve seat profile. Also, we end up doing some weird oscillations with the cutter speed. It's like the material likes a load on the cutter so we start with a slow speed and give it a "stab of the throttle" when it starts cutting.

Oh, and be careful because Beryllium is a very carcinogenic substance!

Shane is right, beryllium is also used a lot in the electronics industry for it's hardness and very high thermal conductivity.

It is also EXTREMELY poisonous, especially any dust from cutting, fracture, or grinding.
Keep it right out of your lungs or any open wounds, it is very nasty stuff.

i never cut it on valve seats but used to make bushings out if it. use sharp cutters because it work hardens easily.

Scary stuff indeed!

Those cases dealt with long term exposure, any idea what the risks associated with short term occasional exposure are?
