Fixures on flow bench

First Hello , I'm new the site and am working on building my first flow bench . I have been looking around the site at some of the differant benches . I am wanting to be able to flow test Harley heads mainly . I noticed that some guys use a cylinder to fix the head to the bench . Is this just because of the heads or is there a nother reason ? And by using the cylinder does it change anything with the flow test ? Thank you .

Yes adding the cylinder affects the flow. I would try to duplicate what the head will see. On my Small Block Chevys I use a cylinder that is the same bore diameter as I run. Usually within .025" -.030". On my 350 heads they actually flow a little more air when using a 4.125" diameter bore. I usually make my adapters around 6" long, but just make them at least as long as your stroke on your engine.

You should be able to just find a piece of PVC tubing that is close and manufacture something suitable. The thing I love about PVC is it machines great so I can bore it to what I want and easily glue it.

Here are a couple of pictures that may work for you. This type of setup would work good for 1 cylinderhead like on a Harley.
