Has anyone controlled vac motors with the amp switching gear from a welder? I have a 180 amp mig welder that I can use parts from.
Any thoughts?

Sell the welder and buy some parts from Bruce.
There is no other way of using any of it.

Is a good Idea, but the welder have a steps control, and you can have the problem to cannot find the perfectly depression, because it stay between 2 steps....A infinite position control(potentiometer) are obligatory.
But a system can be to used is the same of very old stick welder:a wheel with a long screw control the air gap of electrical internal "transformer"(sorry I don't know the right word).
