The web is really getting bad with ads

Have you noticed that practically everywhere you go, the number of ads, stupid survey pop ups and stupid videos all all on the main page of sites, especially anything news related or of social interest?

I realize people make money from the ads but by the same notion, there is a point of reasonable vs over done.

I often do research in tech forums. Even they are getting to be very annoying with the number of ads that are in the way of getting answers

I agree, and I hate the ads enough to where I won't even finish reading a site if they're too overdone. I hate when you click a blank part of a website (to bring a background window to the front or whatever) and the whole background is a link to some more spam. I stopped going to weather.com a couple years back because of how bad the ads were, I use weather.gov now. :/

When I started my own forum years ago, I vowed to make it an ad-free place, and I think that is a big plus.

I installed the adblock and it seems to be working. Another thing I have noticed when out surfing is that I start getting a ton of emails from things like woodworking after I go to a wood working site. If I go to a car parts place then I start getting emails by the tens and twenties for car parts. Where ever I go I seem to start getting all sorts of spam for that subject. I usually get about 100 junk emails a day.

I just got spammed by someone trying to sell me some Ugg boots.

Unfortunately if you download anything that requires Java, or some active program that runs on your computer, it can have a hidden function that scans your computer to steal your e-mail address, passwords, and very likely a lot of other things.

Only way around this that I know of, is to have a second hard drive that you use strictly for online financial transactions, and nothing else.
Plugging and unplugging hard drives is a real nuisance, but so far so good.

Not a lot you can really do about the e-mail spam, usually not possible to block because they keep changing the sending address and the subject line.

That's annoying! Somehow, your browser must be "leaking" your email address to these advertisers, surely there must be something you can do to prevent that. I'm not sure what I'm doing right but that never happens to me, not EVER.

I just went in and tweaked my IE a little hoping to stop some of this. Another thing I think is happening is I just bought this house and everybody and their dog wants your email address now. I think they sell your information.

If you're using Chrome, don't sign into Google. They're getting on my nerves as much as anyone these days. My android phone is always having issues with Chrome Updates...go figure...Google OS and just riddled with issue
