220 cable

Discussion on general flowbench design

Where is a good place to find 10-20 feet of 220 cable? I would like to build a cable to attach my flow bench to the wall outlet. My flow bench will be 10-15 feet away from the outlet or curcuit box. Is this possible or should I move my flow bench closer or have the outlet moved?

Should be able to get cable from Lowes or Home Depot.

There's nothing wrong with running 15-20 feet of cable to your bench, provided that the wire gauge you use is appropriate for the max ampacity that you plan to draw, the length of wire run you'll be using, and that the branch circuit is adequately protected by the proper rated circuit breaker. If all you are running is 220 volt devices, or running pairs of 110 volt motors in series, then you will be fine with 2-conductor, romex cable with/ground. You should also use local fuses to protect each pair or motors, as a larger branch line breaker may never trip, even if you're melting down one of the individual motors in the bench. Also be sure not to overlook the ratings of the plugs and receptacles that you'll use, and be careful. If you get into larger amperage ranges, then you can use the socket and plugs for an electric clothes dryer.
