Discussion on general flowbench design

Postby blownS10blazer » Wed Oct 05, 2005 2:53 am

I have been browsing but don't see any photos or plans and designs. I'm looking to build my own flowbench for automotive heads, carbs, and exhaust and know basically nothing about how to get started.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have the original MSD bench project article in zip format. If you want that I can email it to you. Mercdog.com also sells plans for a bench that is very similar.

Welcome. You are in for quite a journey, but you came to the right place.
I would recommend reading previous posts about both style of benches for an hour each night for the next week then decide on the type you want to build and then read up on that style for another month each night and by then you should have a good grasp on things and be able to build a nice bench. Don't laugh, this stuff dont come over night and if we just put together some plans, nobody would know the why's and the how's.

Everything Scott said is right on the money.

If you go with a rotating flowdisk, PAY CAREFUL ATTENTION TO HOW YOU INTEND IT TO SEAL! Exhaust pressure will find a leak faster than a politician will find a way to dodge a question.

Don't be in any hurry at any point in the building process. Attention to details is the key thing.
