On ebay there are deck plates for sale and they are 1/4 turn to lock with an oring. Anybody try this type and do they seal completly?

I can't comment on the quality of the ebay stuff but if you live anywhere close to a large body of water, you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a good marine supply house in which case, forget about ebay. A good marine supply will have an assortment of deck plates (sometimes called inspection hatches) of various types, sizes, materials, colours and finishes. You'll be able to find ones suitable for your applications for no more than ones on ebay.

The good ones are made by Beckman and screw on vs snap in place. The latch type typically vary in sealing performance. Some are better than others but all are expensive.

The 6" Beckmans typically are about 10.00 and seal typically every time.

I bought some E-bay deck plates, they were junk. (4 for $20 I think) They do not have a thread all the way around, and are made to thin. They leak, and one broke while I was messing with it. I have the Becksons now and they are a lot better than the e-bay jobs. I paid about $10 for the 6" and $20 for the clear 8". I got them from Redden Marine in WA online. They came the next day!

I also tried some cheap ones and they leaked as well. I switched to becksons and haven't had a problem since. I have 5 deck plates (4 6" & 1 8")in my bench and none of them leak. All of mine have clear covers.
