Manometer and numbers(how do you mark?)

Discussion on general flowbench design

Postby SuperRunner » Mon Feb 27, 2006 5:58 pm

Just about ready to make my manometers, and I was wondering what you guys have done for the tick marks and numbers? I want it professional looking. There is the using the millimeter idea and punching that into a computer, but I don't want that, I want to just read it how it is.

What other ways have been done that look real nice?

I had square root scales made up that read in "Percent of Flow". They are a direct replacement scale for a Dwyer 246 inclined manometer, and they should be adaptable to any sort of homebuilt inclined manometer. They are 20 1/2 " long, and have 2 slotted mounting brackets and 2 thumbscrews.
I wasn't going to offer them until after bike week (March 3-12) as I'll be in Daytona. If you're interested, contact me.

Super Runner, I have used a black drafting pen on a flat strip of aluminium, then sprayed it with clear lacquer. The aluminium needs to be scratch free, degreased, and absolutely clean, and it will work fine.

If you want it to look REALLY professional, try using some of that rub on lettering, and then spray that. About the only way to improve on that is some sort of silk screen printing or photographic method, which could be expensive for a one off, but cheap for bulk quantity.

I wonder if there is someone out there prepared to make up some scales for us commercially at a reasonable cost ? There would be a small but steady market amongst us here, I am sure.
Also known as the infamous "Warpspeed" on some other Forums.

I made a scale on the computer, printed it out on paper, glued the paper on to my manometer and gave it a couple clear coats of polyurethane.
