Discussion on general flowbench design

Is anyone actually using the Auxillary serial port on their FP1?

Would you be interested in having an external temperature sensor port on your FP1?

Thanks

Weather station? In luie of that a temp sensor would be nice

Extra pressure sensor for velocity testing or fuel signals when testing carbs?

Is there a way to use it to control depression with a variable frequency drive?
thanks

I vote for a remote button for data captures as being my preference for new accessories...

Does the fp1 have a spot to plug in an ac adapter or does it only use the 9 volt battery?

Mouse,

I now have the depression control up and running!!!! Cool. I may rework my switches for fan control and add an LED for throttle door closed (add more fan).

I am looking to write an app to use the second serial port to capture the output and save it with the lift being tested, like Larry asked for.

Regards,

Image

maybe add 1 or 2 more pairs of positive/negative pressure sensors, that should fillup the backside of FP1

then you could use the (3rd) for dedicated Velocity Probe
(4th) for any extra measurements like Carb Venturi signal
as you Monitor Test Pressure and Inclined pressure differential across the Bench's Orifice.

Does the fp1 have a spot to plug in an ac adapter or does it only use the 9 volt battery?

i thought of exactly the same question...i thought about asking John(Mouse) for another additional black plastic
9v battery box..that i would modify with external plug
to plugin a 9v transformer...so it would be both mobile and stationary capable.

I vote for a remote button for data captures as being my preference for new accessories...

i thought about that too...however, the MOUSE is acting like
that Button anyway thru Larry C.'s Excel SpreadSheet.
if you had a Button..then it would have to serve or have
(2) Functions ..one to press to capture Intake events
another to capture Exhaust Flow events
..you would need some way to program that Button,
i think the better way is MOUSE + Larry C.'s SpreadSheet

Larry Cavanaugh's Excel SpreadSheet captures FP1 Data
with Click of MOUSE...that SpreadSheet could be further
modified to =>

LEFT MOUSE BUTTON= capture Intake Flow Data
RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON = capture Exhaust Flow Data

Middle Mouse Button (or Scroll-Wheel)= Scroll both Int/Exh Flow captured Data

Hello,

I cam also across the FP1 and the FE2.0M element.

Do you guys have some more information on the accuracy ?
Do you have some in "field" experiences for me too ?
It says "Accurate" on the web but how accurate ?

If someone has some more information on:
- Accuracy +- %
- Repeatability +- %
- Resolution in cfm or % of FS

I am thinking to buy one OR to make my own electronic unit .....

Do you guys have more info or should I contact flowperformance

Thanks a lot

Yikes! Where should I start?

Weather Station,
it looks like this may be offered as a kit. You supply the case, we supply the board and components that plug into the board. It may be that the WS port will accept either the WS or just a temp sensor. The temp sensor will be a local plug-in item but you will be able to use an extension cord to make it remote.

Test Pressure,
The Aux 3 port is a PWM (Pulse Width Modulated) port. I am not shure what a Variable frequency drive is. The PWM port will control hobby servo motors, commonly used in radio controlled models. You can mkae a pressure restriction/bleed valve that is controlled by the FP1 to achieve a test pressure determined by the user.
David, glad to hear you have a working valve. I think the newer firmware version has a lot more PWM options that you may find usefull.
Flow Peformance offers a 3" valve for $299.00.

AC adaptor,
Some folks have modified their battery tray with a 9 volt battery snap-on thing held in place with a small block powered by a 9 volt battery replacement wall wart from Radio Shack. This is not recommended behavior and violates FP standards as well as some Federal standards. Batteries are best for any electronic test instrument.

Capture Button,
The Aux 2 port will control the Aux serial port. By using a normally closed button on the Aux 2 port, data is sent out the Aux serial port when the button is pushed. If no button is in the Aux 2 port, the data is constantly sent out the Aux serial port. You can use this as a data capture button setup using 2 commputers each running FPcom, or one commputer with two serial ports and running FPcom1 and FPcom2. When you push the button, data will appear in FPcom2, while you operate your FP1 through FPcom1.
The FP1 may have the ability to increment spread sheet cell row numbers using the Aux 2 port button someday soon. A standard will need to be established as to what cells to start with and how to reset it though.

More pressure sensors,
It will happen. When is not a sure thing.

Accuracy,
Computer modeling in measuring pressure inches of water with the newest FP1 has shown a typical Full Scale of +/-.005% at 65F and .08% FS from 32F to 110F for the 40" sensors. These are typical values. Resolution is .001"wc, not to be confused with accuracy. The computer modeling is based on actual data. Actual data was obtained using ideal conditions and setup. No claims are being made here. Test instruments to obtain the test data are Meriam 30PA10TM, 40EX35 and 1430 water manometers.

A flow bench using the Flow Performance FE2.0m flow element, and an FP1 Electronic flow rate processor can yeild a typical about +/- 1% accuracy from 25 to 400 cfm. Again, this data is obtained under ideal conditions and setup.

Hope this helps, and thanks for the input so far.

John
