More accurate method

Thanks for the advice. Do you think it's best to use a pitot tube in the pipe then ?

Also been investigating using an anemometer in the pipe to measure air velocity. Here is the link to the instrument I was considering:-

I have never used a pitot bench so cannot really comment.

Bruce and Mouse (aka John) are the high priests of the pitot flow bench. They can even supply you with some excellent components at a very friendly price.

Myself, I am a confirmed heretic, and remain faithful to my trusty third generation orifice bench.

That instrument looks like a hot wire anemometer of some sort. The trouble with instruments like that is you just have to have absolute faith in what it says on the display.

I have an old propeller type anemometer, the type used frequently in the heating and ventilation industry. It was my very first experiment into the great world of flow testing automotive parts at home. It might still be useful for things like comparing mufflers and exhaust systems, intercoolers and turbocharger pipework and so on, where back to back tests can reveal a lot without extreme accuracy of flow measurement being required. So it is a quick and easy portable tool rather than a precise flow measurement reference. It might be an easy way to get started though.

What about an LFE, like these-

On second thought, maybe not, them things ain't exactly reasonably priced for a hobbyist type setup. 1000 SCFM LFE's range from $2000.00-$4000.00 just for the bare LFE. But it would be pretty easy to use having a linear flow rate/ differential pressure curve.
