I''ve got a really stupid idea if anyone is game....I was thinking I'd make a test plate, flow it at 28", document the readings and mail it to Bruce...have him flow it and mail it to someone...etc. etc..
We'd have to figure out a logical order for shipping. It would start in Pennsylvania and ultimately everyone that receives it would document their results and pass it on...We can either post results as it's received or wait for the last guy to get it and suprise everyone with the results.....any takers?
Yea....BTW...I've probably totally lost my mind by now..

Larry,
I'm already setup in a production run of some plates on my lathe this week, I can machine up another one for this "forum project" or just send it along with the one you make?

Bruce,
Cool...we can use one that you make...you start the ball rolling if there's interest....I'll email you my address. Establish the test criteria....bolted directly to the top of the bench would probably be best...don't you think..

I would be very interested in getting in on this in a month or two. Make it big enough for everyone to write their number on it. Or not.

My bench is not done yet but it will be and that would be perfect for me. Great Idea.

I would be happy to test it on my SF-110.
My new bench is still a few months away from completion. My adult ed. cabinet making class only meets once a week and will be shutting down for the Holidays. Makes for slow progress.
I live in Indiana, at a wide spot in the road between the cornfields and the beanfields.
Part of the reason I'm interested is because of something Jerry Branch once said about the reliability of other people's test results, particularly on a certain type of flowbench.
Maybe we should PM or USPS our results to Larry C. so nobody would know what anyone else got until it is over. That would eliminate any possible biasing of the tests.
I already know that my bench was within (+) or (-) 1% of a business associate's bench in Canada. A few years ago, I had a set of his heads come through my shop, and I put them on my bench just to see if they would give me the same numbers as he claimed. They did!

Ok, I'm game for making a plate to "pass it around". I like the idea of people flowing it but not knowing what it is suppose to flow or what it flowed on someone else's bench.
Now how do we go about making sure everyone gets a chance at flowing the plate? It has to be sent to people who already have a bench working so it doesn't get stuck in someone shop for months on end, as you get a bench working let the lead person know and they can send out the plate.
Larry, I'll make up a plate and get it to you, PM me with your address and I'll get it out later this week along with the others I am shipping out.
For anyone who wants their own cal plate let me know while I am setup this week to machine them and I'll get one machined up for you, cost is $25 each they are machined out of 6061 .125 thick 6"x6" alum and are a sharp edge orifice (back cut bevel, not just a straight thru hole). For those of you who have contacted me lately, If I already emailed you today about your plate order no need to email me.

As of Monday night 12/12/05 I count 10 members that are interested. A geograhically logistical method would be best for passing the plate on. Brue, Wing64K and myself live in Pennsylvania. If the rest of you guys will PM me with your address info I'll sort out a shipping order and draw up a sheet with test criteria to ship with the plate.
As you get the plate, test it according to the criteria and ship it to the person below you on the list. I'll redo the list so it makes sense geographically after I have received everyone's address in a PM. We'll work on an East to West basis. Make sure to let me know if your bench is ready to rock!
After you receive and test...PM Bruce with your results...he can hold them and post it when he's ready..
Friday 12/16/05 will be last call [so to speak]
Anyone else that want's in after the passing starts will just have to go on the end of the list ..if everyone is OK with that.
I can't tell by the names but I sure hope we have some down under participants....I have someone from Australia at my home right now and she estimates about 4 -7 days shipping time and maybe 10-15$ cost.....that's an estimate based on things she's shipped to me from Perth.....Wadda ya say mates?
So far I have:
Bruce
Larry C
Wing64k
Jesse Lackman
Blown928
Dave W
Hollywood63
Gofaster [I have your address]
