John, The dates for Speed Week 2010 are confirmed for Aug 14-20. Check scta-bni.org for more details and updates.
Flash, I was there from Oct 5 through Oct 11. Overhight temps dropped in the high 30's, but were above freezing. One mornig the density altitude was 3945 feet (the lake bed is about 4400 feet)! About 140 vehicles total and 40 bikes. Only about 22 (+/-) bikes qualified for records and only about 15 records. The 2 best IMHO were the Honda 600 RR on gas at 180.004 mph and a similar Honda with a nitrous setup (fuel class) at 195+. The gas record was taken by the former fuel record holder and the fuel record was broken by the previous gas record holder! To give you an idea of where things are going, a 1000cc APS bike went almost 280 at the BUB event in Sept but broke on the 2nd half record run. The rider said the bike could almost be ridden hands off but the areo was lifting him off the seat so he was holding on with his knees, hands, and anything else he could think of. The Current World Record for a "sit-on" ibike is a 1350 blown fuel Hayabusa at about 255 so this opened a few eyes! The 'Busa was also APS, but using the bodywork rules from last year, while the GSXR was using the new rules! Next year will be really interesting! Still on the road, be home about Tuesday, 10-27. -- Doug
