Orifice disks - Do they leak that bad?

Are people moving away from the rotating orifice disks? Is that mainly because of leakage issues? Or design / calibration / construction issues?

Several issues with the rotating disc deal IF you don't think it through
completely. The rotating stuff in the mags is junk.

A couple of members have created set-ups that work well but are based
on the orifice disc being mounted on a vertical plane in the bench vs the
magazine method. To get it to seal properly you need a high clamping force and a good "steering wheel" type level arm to turn the disc plate.

Stoppers with a multiple hole plate and two port holes is so much easier.

Ok... Then I'll go away from it too,and stick to my original idea of a 8" long section of 20" pipe holding an orifice. It's at least 100% leakproof,and takes just 30 sec to change... I've spent to much time deciding what to do.

20" diameter pipe! That is a big pipe.

Making and sealing an orifice turret is dead easy if the air only ever flows in one direction. The entry can be made flush, and the air pressure drop across the orifice will seal the whole contraption.

Making something that works with air flowing in either direction is a whole different matter. It is vastly more difficult, and no guarantee it will read the same when flowing both ways.
