I have been reading that an intake taper should be about 2-4 degrees. Is that 2-4 degrees before the bowl, or compared to the size of the valve seat opening.
What problems would occure if say, the taper was 8 degrees?

I'm going to have to say that it depends on the head you're working with.
Port tapers in general are exactly that IMHO...general pointers that may or may not work the same on different heads.....
