For those of you who have asked me about the computer system I have on my flowbench here is a link to the website that sells them.



Once you go digital on your flowbench you will never want to go back to the old water manometers!! I still use the manometers for somethings but this setup speeds up my flowbench time so much.

The Flow Performance FP1 will have orifice style bench capability in the version 3.0 software that will be available soon. This will be available for the Basic model as well as the Standard model. 6 orifice sizes will be able to be entered and stored in the FP1 memory for instant recall and use for real-time CFM readings. As always, previously owned FP1s can be reprogrammed to the new software version.

The FP1 will still be able to work with Pitot tube setups as before.

Preliminary beta testing of the FP1 for orifices type benches has been showing good results.

A new beta version of FPcom for Windows now has the ability to send data directly to Excel, and has showed very good results in beta testing. Both FPcom and Excel can be active for full control and view of both programs at the same time.

FP1's high resolution and FPcom's ability to send data directly to Excel make this combination invaluable to home bench builders and designers for any type of differential pressure producing devices.

Both FP1 Basic and Standard models have the orifice capability, with the Basic costing $299.00 and the Standard $399.00. While FPcom 1.0 is free with any of the FP1 models, FPcom for Excel is $99.00.

So this means you can put away those pesky manometers and forget all that incline scale confusion and get your CFM readings instantly as you flow test on a laptop, desktop or Pocket PC. And your data is stored in text files for use in other programs such as spreadsheets, databases or word processors.

With FPcom for Excel, you can set your FP1 to manometer mode and process your readings yourself in real time with Excel. This means you can create your own flow bench software with Excels powerfull data processing and macro language. With all the capabilities of Excel, you can incorporate graphs, charts, controls, etc.. plus the wide selection of fonts and formats, you can create some pretty impressive, and informative displays.

I am new to all of this. I note in the description of the flow wensor that it is a uni-directional device. Do you take car of reversing the flow by means of a valve and plumbing or do you use two elements, one for each direction.

The Flow Performance FE series elements are mono-directional, meaning they work best measuring flow in one direction. You turn them around to measure the opposite direction. You can certainly connect two of them together for a bi-directional flow element.

They do measure flow in the opposite direction, but the accuracy is not as good. However, you can measure particulated gasses in the opposite direction.
