I'm not a professional mechanic but I have been using my nephew's OBD II code scanner and I have a need to get my own. Instead of a scanner I was thinking about getting the software to hookup to a laptop so I can read the data not just the codes. I prefer to perform my own work on my vehicles.
I see a few listed on ebay and I am wondering if anyone else has used this setup, and if so which one? As usual cost is an object. What should I look for? My vehicles are 96 and newer, I have a GM and Jeep.

A local garage here has a cool setup that's wireless. I just sorted out some computer problems with their system a few months ago. You can install the scanner in the car and be across the road from the garage...computer inside picks it all up...probably not what you're looking for but I thought the setup was pretty cool....
