Air Flow Books

Hi Guys,

Just to start, thanks for all the great information on the board, I am slowly getting through all the posts before I ask any newbey questions. Im sure alot of my questions are on the board somewhere.

Just one question though, does anyone know of any good books relating to the physic's of air flow, specificly relating to engines.

Also any good books or websites on cylinder head modification ?

Hi Paul,

A number of years ago I aquired a book from and engineer at IBM for industrial ventalation. It contained a great deal of formulas and diagrams. Much of the basics can be found right on the Dwyer Instruments website. In a nutshell, it comes down to Velocity, Static & Total pressures, combined with the coefficient factor of losses at the entry and exits of hoods, ports, etc.

From the Best of Hot Rod Magazine volume 1 series of books [Car Tech], High Performance Chevy Small Block Cylinder Heads is a good porting book. Read the interviews with porters carefully for some tips and tricks.

I realize this is just covering chev. stuff, but it is a great resource and the basic pricipals apply to any cylinder head.
